2018 Projects Recognized as Best Real Estate Deals

With over $500 million in projects finishing in 2018, the Allen Economic Development Corporation is receiving recognition as a partner for deals in a variety of categories. Earning eight nominations and four wins from three organizations – CoreNet North Texas Black, White and Blue Awards of Excellence, DCEO’s Commercial Real Estate Awards and the Dallas Business Journal’s Best Real Estate Deals – these awards highlight the very best commercial real estate projects in North Texas.

“We saw an explosive year of development in Allen in 2018.” said Dan Bowman, Executive Director of Allen EDC. “These projects are a credit to our mission of attracting, growing and serving businesses in the Allen community, which in turns lowers the tax burden for our residents.”

The Delta Hotels by Marriott Dallas Allen & Watters Creek Convention Center earned top honors at CoreNet winning for Top Major Deals and Projects of 2018 and also won in the Hospitality category for the DBJ’s Best Real Estate Deals.  The unique $91 million center features 300 premium guest rooms: 90,000 SF of flexible convention, ballroom, meeting and exhibit space: and Stampede 66, a restaurant by renowned Dallas Chef Stephan Pyles.

The Watters Creek District, which includes the One Bethany at Watters Creek corporate campus, the Delta Hotels by Marriott Dallas Allen & Watters Creek Convention Center and Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm mixed-use center, won Best Real Estate Deal for top mixed-use development from the Dallas Business Journal.  With the focus on walkability for tenants, visitors and residents, the Watters Creek District offers the only truly walkable center in Collin County.

The Collin College Technical Campus, a 340,000 SF career and technical facility won the DBJ Best Real Estate Deal in the Education award category.  The three-story campus, which broke ground in Allen in September 2018 is scheduled to open Fall 2020.

The new headquarters for WatchGuard Video was a finalist for awards from all three organizations. WatchGuard Video, the leading provider of mobile video solutions for law enforcement, opened their 140,000 SF office in June 2018.

Kaizen Development Partners, developer of the One Bethany at Watters Creek corporate campus, was also named a finalist for DCEO’s Developer of the Year award.

“It is an honor to be recognized in so many different categories,” said Bowman. “Winning these awards is a testament to the strategic vision of the Allen City Council and the Allen EDC Board of Directors, as well as the hard work of the AEDC and City staff to implement our community vision.”
